Started during the pandemic, a weekly hot meal service for the senior citizens of Olón, Ecuador is still going strong nearly two years later.
Spirit of Wellness is proud to help sponsor the program started by a dedicated team of residents who continue to provide nutritional support to the most vulnerable members of the community.
Nearing one year of operation, the Olón Foodbank, a program of Spirit of Wellness, serves between 20 to 40 families during each bi-monthly distribution.
The families receive supplies such as rice, flour, sugar, tuna, eggs, beans, pasta and fresh produce. In addition, they are provided household hygiene items such as bleach, soap, toothpaste or shampoo.
In December 2021, Spirit of Wellness team members piloted a Leadership Program designed specifically for the members of the San José community as they embarked on a course to overcome the economic setback of pandemic closures.
Due to the program's overwhelming success, phase two is scheduled to be implemented in December 2022.
We are asking our US-based partners to donate single serving containers to help support our weekly senior luncheon's take-home meal distribution.
We are asking our US-based partners to donate shoes that can be provided to our seniors (and children) to help support safe walking during the wet season in coastal Ecuador.
