Ambulance Initiative: Update 2023
2023: Based on the results of the feasibility study, the project will not move forward at this time.
Ambulance services are not present throughout the country and unreliable in most areas except Quito.
In February 2020, Spirit of Wellness Board of Directors toured the Monglaralto medical clinic and hospital. During the visits, the need for an ambulance was voiced by the Hospital Administrator. This sentiment was echoed by the Ministry of Health Director for Santa Elena as well as the local Comuna Presidents.
In response to this need, Spirit of Wellness implemented the $100,000.00 Ambulance Initiative. The initiative aimed to purchase an ambulance and develop a program that included emergency medical technicians (EMTs), training, vehicle maintenance and medical equipment to benefit the 30 thousand inhabitants of the county.
Leadership teams from 20 of the surrounding Comunas gathered in July 2021 to offer support and encouragement to the Spirit of Wellness team.
After conducting a feasibility study, the team determined that the overall project concept is sound. However, additional community infrastructure is necessary to ensure the long-term viability of an ambulance that is not affiliated with a private medical practice.
