Spirit of Wellness is expanding access to high-quality online learning through a new Digital Education Program developed in partnership with Coursera and Instituto Superior Tecnológico Tecnópolis.

Through Coursera’s Social Impact program, Spirit of Wellness has access to 250 licenses that allow participants to take courses and professional learning programs from universities and industry leaders at no cost to the learner. Courses are available in areas such as English, technology, business, project management, leadership, communication, and professional development.

Many capable learners in our region face barriers that have little to do with motivation. The cost of specialized training, limited local course options, travel requirements, and work or family responsibilities can make continued education difficult to access.

The Digital Education Program combines global online learning with local guidance and support. Our goal is not simply to provide access to courses, but to help participants select useful learning opportunities, remain engaged, complete their studies, earn credentials where available, and apply what they learn to their work and communities.

A Coursera license has an approximate retail value of $399 USD per learner per year and is provided to participants in this program at no cost.

The first phase of the program is an educator pilot with Tecnópolis faculty. Educators will experience Coursera as learners, select courses related to their own professional development, and provide practical feedback about account setup, navigation, course selection, usability, and learner support.

Their experience will help Spirit of Wellness identify what works well, what needs improvement, and what future learners may need in order to succeed.

The educator pilot is also helping us develop a local mentor model. Participants who choose to continue may later support small groups of learners by providing encouragement, answering basic questions, identifying barriers, and helping learners stay connected to the program.

Spirit of Wellness will use the pilot results to refine:

• participant onboarding and instructions; 
• recommended course pathways; 
• mentor support and follow-up; 
• course-selection guidance; 
• feedback and progress monitoring. 

Once the pilot is complete, the program will expand to additional students and community learners.

Our long-term goal is to create a sustainable learning system that connects people in our region with education, professional credentials, practical skills, and new opportunities.
